Crazy About Birds

Clapper Rail

Since I first saw this bird - a Clapper Rail - a few years ago (I think this is year three) I've made a point to look for it when the tide is low and I'm crossing the bridge from Chincoteague to Assateague. Just before the bridge there's a raised walkway above a wetland area and at low tide the rail is often right there next to the walkway. Well. Today, it was up on the mowed grass alongside the bike path! Hello!! Quite a treat. I think of rails as shy and skulking, but this guy? Not so much.
