Aberdeen Poised

We walked many miles in Aberdeen today enjoying the public art!

In 2017 Andy Scott was commissioned to create a centre piece for Marischal Square.  The two leopards on the City of Aberdeen's coat of arms were the inspiration for his work Poised.  The sculpture, crafted from thousands of steel fragments, is 5 metres tall with a 5 metre tail, weighs two tonnes and is balanced on a 10 metre steel column.  It's a feat of engineering as well as a wonderful work of art!

We saw lots of fabulous street art murals which have mainly been created since the annual NuArt festivals started in 2017.

We enjoyed the architecture around The University of Aberdeen - from the 15th century Kings College Chapel through to the 21st century Sir Duncan Rice Library.

We had dinner in The Esslemont Bar & Restaurant.  Esslemont and MacIntosh department store was an Aberdonian institution which traded for 134 years until 2005.  The department store was the inspiration for the decorative transformation into the restaurant and what a great job they've done in recognising the heritage.

Collapsed into our kips at an embarrassingly early hour!
