Lourdesgrotte at Oberharmersbach

The memorial, a replica of the apparition of Mary in Lourdes, was erected in the 1920s as a memorial for the fallen and missing of the First World War. A memorial plaque also commemorates the dead of the Second World War.

Barite was used as a building material for the St. Mary's Grotto. This mineral occurs as gangue rock in the Black Forest and was mined not far from this point until 1948. It was used as a raw material in the paper and rubber industry and for the production of high quality white paint.

The grotto is privately owned.

It is very impressive!
Now we are at home again. We had wonderful hollidays!
