Make Every Day Memorable

A Life On The Ocean Wave

Kipsie, if you are reading this, I can imagine you'll be turning green and not from jealousy ;-D)

We have been keeping an eye on social media for wildlife sightings on the island and were thrilled to read last Thursday that John Coe and Aquarius were seen off the north coast - an older report below

Persuaded by this most recent sighting we booked a 4 hour boat trip with Sealife Surveys out of Tobermory this afternoon (Sunday)
JD was much keener to go, probably because he hadn't been on the eagle trip last week. As the weather has cooled off considerably and it wasn't a problem to leave Jorgie in the van, I was talked into going along.

Not long after leaving the harbour and heading out towards the open sea, a WTE flew over to inspect us and this for me, was the most exciting part of the trip.

We then had distant views of common dolphins and a few birds busy doing their own thing. A brief moment of excitement when I spotted some diving gannets but we didn't anywhere within range of my lens.

The boat continued towards Rum, Muck and Eigg and even Barra and South Uist in the Outer Hebrides came into view.
I must admit I was rather bored with nothing to photograph.

JD on the other hand was really enjoying it and his day was made when we (eventually) spotted 2 Minke Whales, the reason for traveling out so far.

I was VERY LUCKY to be pointing the camera in the right portion of the ocean to get the main blip.

Luckily the water was calm and there was very little chop as we spent a considerable time just waiting for something to happen.

Oh, did we see Orca? No! but we didn't honestly think for one minute that we would
