Not a great day to be alive as a supporter of Surrey County Cricket Club. Day two of the match against Essex saw the visitors start on 299 for three and although the bowlers did a good job to take the next seven wickets for 140 runs there followed a horror show from the Surrey batsmen. The only tiny ray of light in the dismal performance was provided by the masterful Hashim Amla who made a chanceless 58 not out out of a close of play total of 107 for 7. Rain tomorrow may provide Surrey's best hope of getting out of this match with a draw!

The main shot is of Amla driving Shane Snater through the covers to bring up 50 for Surrey. The extras are of Essex and England legend Sir Alastair Cook on his way to making 165 and Surrey legend Rikki Clarke smashing Simon Harmer for the only six of the day.
