The Curse

In to the Forty Foot for a swim and then to Fitgerald's in Sandycove. It has only just reopened. You have to show your vaccination card to get in. Then lovely creamy pints. I watched the All Ireland Football final between Mayo and Tyrone. I was hoping Mayo would win because they have not won it since 1951. Mayo have appeared in eleven finals since winning their last title in 1951, losing them all (1989, 1996 after a replay, 1997, 2004, 2006, 2012, 2013, 2016 after a replay, 2017, 2020 and 2021); this is the longest unbroken sequence of losing finals in the history of the competition.

There is said to be a curse on the team.
The Mayo squad were travelling back west from Dublin along with the Sam Maguire cup after beating Meath to claim the title.
And according to the story, the team, travelling in the back of a truck, passed a funeral in the town of Foxford without stopping to pay their respects.
A curse was then supposedly put on them, which meant they would not win an All-Ireland crown again until every member of that team had died.
