A cathedral and a castle

The site at St Cyrus last night was perfect! There was a securely fenced dog run with a picnic bench, lots of trees and long grass, wild flowers and poo bags bins. Excellent!  Lottie loved it, we ran around for ages with her ball on a string!  Also perfect for humans, quiet and clean.

Went to Brechin first. The cathedral was closed but the outside of it was interesting even outside, and we saw the round tower which was the match of the Abernethy one, but more decorated.

The kirkyard, cemetery, was really lovely. Planted with lots of trees, and the dappled light coming through them was beautiful.

On later to Edzel Castle. It was much more complete than we had expected and very interesting. Lottie -and several other dogs - were allowed in and amongst the ruins as well as in the formal gardens. A fascinating garden, with plaques of the graces, the liberal arts, gods, goddesses and muses on the high surrounding walls. So many interesting things to see! A great place to visit.

Decided then to go and look at the Caterthuns, ancient hill forts, the Brown and the White one.  Unfortunately, they were too far off the road for us to tackle at that stage of the day, but we may be back one day!

Back towards Edzel where we camped in a pull in at the edge of a wood and next to the river. As we do, before we settle down, we picked up all the rubbish in the area. This included a crisp packet with a discarded mackerel trace, complete with half a dozen barbed hooks, in it!! Unbelievable!!
