The Vintage Waiting Room, Ingrow Station

The snow is still with us but, having started to melt, it no longer has that 'enchanted winter wonderland' look and it is still bitterly cold. The trains were running today on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, a preservation society with some wonderful steam and diesel locomotives running weekends and holidays on a short line between Keighley and Oxenhope, calling at several immaculately preserved stations, including Haworth, the one-time home of the Bronte sisters. Ingrow is one such station, but although no one could question its authentic appearance, it has only been at its present location since 1980. In great need of a station, the present building was moved from Foulridge, Lancashire where it was no longer in use, and lovingly rebuilt at Ingrow, stone by stone and brick by brick. The interior is entirely authentic, including its antiquated ladies 'powder room', its wooden bench seating and, best of all, its roaring coal fire which is always lit when the trains are running and the weather is inclement. The coal scuttle by the fire is always kept topped up, the fire well stoked, and the grate even has a rack where you could lean a long fork to toast your crumpet! Not that I've ever seen anyone do that as the fireguard is always in place. Health and safety and all that.
