Why did I come in here?

Under 14s Sunday rugby.

The first game of the Under 14s season against Penryn. Our lads lost by one try.

James loves the game, here he is just after his mate scored a try. Then moments later he popped his right knee for the 8th time. The medical care is really good but we took him to the local minor injuries unit, he sees an orthopaedic surgeon next week. I’m deeply saddened for him, we had a quiet word in the car after his visit to the hospital and Grandpa told him that may be his final game. I had exactly the same problems at his age and the joint never fully recovers. He has already mulled it over and is determined that swimming may be his better option, he’s like a fish and thinks nothing of whacking out 1k in the pool.

The final extra is one of the parents, Chris. He’s a surgeon with a difference. He only has one eye! I asked to take his portrait after the following conversation with him.

“Where’s the other eye Chris?”
“I left it in the car, we couldn’t find it.”

Got to love rugby folk.
