Mistaken identity

M rang our local Health centre in Bridge of Allan today demanding to know why a doctor he had never met  had prescribed a new drug for him.
It was lamotrigine, a drug used for the treatment of epilepsy and bipolar disorder, conditions M certainly does not have.

The Health centre receptionist did a quick check.
“ No, the drug is not for you. It’s an unfortunate mistake. There are two men with the same name in Bridge of Allan.”

Yet his name and address were on the package and the local pharmacy had insisted earlier that it had been prescribed.

OK mistakes are made though we like to think the NHS is infallible.
But what if…M had failing health and his wife/carer insisted he take the drugs because it was clear from the package that they had been prescribed by a doctor?
