Diggers and Levellers

Anniemay and neighbours Trish and Andrew give some serious thought to the next phase of their Guerrilla Gardening project.

Guerrilla gardening is a global phenomena, the term first being applied to a group in New York who cultivated an abandoned plot of land in 1973.  But its roots (sorry) go much deeper.

The Diggers (an off-shoot of the Levellers ) were a group of Agrarian Socialists who attempted to farm common land in Surrey in1649 at a time when harvests were poor and food prices high.  It did not end well.  The posh folk called the army in.

I assume such a fate will not befall Anniemay, Trish and Andrew as they dig and level this particular plot of (currently) abandoned land.  And Covid restrictions may well prevent their transportation to the colonies.
