Azorean Welcome

Five tired amigos (Ermelinda and Cecílio were chasing their dog, Duda, across Mourão at 5am) met in Lisbon airport this morning for our flight to Ponta Delgada, main city on the island of São Miguel, in the archipelago of the Azores (extra phone selfie).

Two hours flying west across the Atlantic, the clouds parted and we saw this volcanic crater, half green, half blue, called the Sete Cidades, and iridescent green countryside (extra).

The pineapple greeted us with its scent even before we saw it, when we arrived at the flat we're staying in, along with cheese from the cows that graze freely year round, and traditional Lêvedo cakes. All were delicious.

Gratefuls:
- a smooth entry and not needing a test (even though we are British)
- feeling more excited about being here after a good nap
- being with these friends again, and doing tourism the Portuguese way (includes a lot more churches, for one)
