Day 1 Level 3 Lockdown

It was a blustery day in Auckland today and there is a wind warning in place overnight. Despite that, we ventured out for our daily walk, which was more social than has been the case lately.  With masks in place and socially-distanced, we met a friend at Mission Bay and walked while we talked.  We left her to go back to her studies and continued on our way. Some 50 minutes later we met another friend at the bottom of her driveway and had a long chat. From there we walked to Coates Avenue to buy some stamps and make some purchases at the butcher shop. Our final stop was at The Daily Mission café at Eastridge Mall, where we purchased two tomato and cheese croissants and two coffees and sat on an outside bench for a picnic lunch.  We wanted to show our support for the café, which is the base for our Tuesday morning walking group, on the first day they have been able to operate again after five weeks in lockdown. Some 4.5 hours and 14.64 kms after setting out we arrived back home. Our elapsed timed was 3 hours.

Today’s blip shows workers on a cliff face at Kohimarama.  They had been working to stabilise the cliff face for months prior to lockdown, and were back at work today for the first time. They’ve drilled dozens of metal rods deep into the cliff face, then covered the area with a black fabric. Now they’re covering that with a thick green fabric and on top of that they’re putting big flanges and nuts over the ends of the rods.  Fascinating to watch.  The extra shows the whole area that’s been worked on.

There were 23 new community cases today.
