I expect, if left to their own devices, these reeds will close the gap before too long. In the meantime, I like the reflected sky, half blue, half white and the stark contrast of the reeds.

I suppose it's more of a design choice than an aesthetic or an idea. And I placed the division between blue and white in the centre, for emphasis.
