Town Gardens (Friday 24th September 2021)

This was taken in the Town Gardens on the way into Calne after lunch today. A Calne landmark was demolished this week, a rather shabby wood-built shed which housed the hardware store known as Trotman's (Trotman moved on years ago), but which was well-loved by the locals. I don't know what will replace it but it's bound to be less useful (foundations revealed in Extras). Thanks to BikerBear for Flower Friday.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Boris Gardiner - A Groovy Kind Of Love (1968)
Toni Wine and Carole Bayer wrote this song for Lesley Gore in 1965, adapted from the Rondo movement in Muzio Clementi's Sonatina in G Major, Opus 36, No. 5. They duly sent her Toni Wine's demo of the song, but her record label rejected it. The first released version was by 'Dianne and Annita', but released in France only, on an EP, and it is thought that Toni Wine and Carole Bayer might be the actual voices on the record. The version that I knew at the time was by Patti LaBelle and her BlueBelles, on the B-side of Over The Rainbow, but quickly became more famous in the hit version by the Mindbenders. This revival by Boris Gardiner, chosen by Mark Lamarr recently, on the Jamaican reggae label Bronco, borrows the organ intro to A Whiter Shade Of Pale, adapted from another classical piece of course.
