Hairy Beastie

Spotted this caterpillar climbing amidst the Lavender stems. Admittedly it wasn't difficult to see as it was a helpful day-go colour. On the left is a view from above, whist on the right is underneath including the head. A little research revealed it's a Pale Tussock. The bright colour is said to be a deterrent to predators and apparently it doesn't taste very nice. Said to be common, it's the first I've seen.
