Astano

What a lovely day we have had! First we took the train a few stops to Ponte Tresa, with a friend, crossed the bridge into Italy, had a coffee and croissant, and another coffee. Next a great butcher's, then the market for fruit, veg, anchovies and cheese. What a great selection!
After a ham sandwich for lunch and a rest we set off for a visit to Bert's berries, an organic farm for vines and berries. An honesty box along with outdoor fridges and we treated ourselves to fresh raspberries, sweet grapes, berry juice, berry vinegar and jam.
Driving further along the road we stopped in Astano, a sleepy little village in the Malcantone, and we found an old traditional house, hosting an exhibition of old postcards of the region. It was a step back in time and gave us a great connection to this area, both through the postcards as well as the stories our host told us.
Lamb cutlets from the butcher and fresh raspberries from the farm rounded the evening off nicely.
