A day in Porto

There were thunderstorms overnight with heavy rain, but it had all gone by morning, as had the Italians who were pretty quiet, thankfully. We did get some sleep after all.

We have spent the day exploring Porto on foot, slowly. Visited the Carmelite church (Carmo) and walked over the dizzying heights of Ponte do Infante and down to the port houses of Gaia, returning by water taxi.

The steep path we walked up which you can see on the right was used by the "Carqujeiras" - the Gorse Women of Porto - who carried loads of 50 kilos forittle reward in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They are honoured by a statue at the top.

We have been out to eat at the vegan buffet restaurant again and it looks as though we may have the room to ourselves tonight. Tomorrow we leave on the next stage of our walk to Santiago, following the coastline for a while. It will be exciting to be by the Atlantic Ocean.
