Berrington Hall

Nice sunny day for a visit. National Trust near Leominster. Last landscape garden for Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. Lovely walled garden and very early sit upon lawnmower, it was first made in 1920’s in the Potting Shed. I’m not sure how old this one was. It was interesting to see the curved wall in the kitchen garden, specially designed by Capability in 1783, which is being renovated. It is one of the two still in existence and the only one on view. The curve was to protect the fruits that were grown against it. Looking out from the house towards the lake was a great view, and we walked down through the pasture to the lake… beautifully signed, so we didn’t get lost. There was also time for tea and cake…. I had lemon drizzle!
