wild hornet

This big hornet was walking around on the lounge carpet this morning. No idea how it got there. It was almost 2 inches long. I put a jam jar over it, slipped a bit of card on top and got it outside. Had to get a few photos. It seemed sleepy walking around the jar then suddenly buzzed out of the top and over my shoulder - a scary couple of seconds… Mr I and Jim (who was also here) had disappeared inside by this point!
