Huka Falls..

Today I went on a boat trip up the Waikato River from the Aratiatia Dam, to the Huka Falls. The Waikato River carries the water from Lake Taupo a distance of 434kms to the Tasman Sea.  The Huka Falls are created by water that has flowed through a wide riverbed around 100metres wide and 4 metres deep that is then confined to a narrow section 15metres wide and 10metres deep.  It is an awesome sight.  The 11 Hydro power stations on the Waikato River supply 65% of the North Island's power.  We initialy thought the strange grey cloud in the first extra was a tornado but  it was gone very quickly and we decided it was more likely from one of the Geothermal power stations in the area.  2nd extra of the Huka Jet was passsed us several times as it gave its vistors a thrilling ride( not for me)
