Curlew

I cycled along to the old hospital to get my flu shot, then carried on to Scapa beach and the pier. I think this curlew has pegged out a certain stretch of shore as its own patch and is the same one I have photographed before on that spot. A less happy sight was of about 12 dead guillemots, part of the massive die-off of auks that stretches all the way down the east coast as far as Northumberland. The cause may be a toxic algal bloom but scientists are still investigating..
