Southern Rhodesia Memorial Avenue

Whilst on a country walk from Overstrand to the village of Southrepps in Norfolk we came across this strange phenomenon: an avenue of Lime trees It was laid out in 1990 as a living memory to those who helped to make up the Colony of Southern Rhodesia As you can see there are three flags, the Union Jack, and below the colony flag and also the flag of Rhodesia used for the years after UDI and before it became the country of Zimbabwe Each tree has a small plaque at the bottom, dedicated to someone involved in running the colony In the far distance you can just see the tower of Southrepps church (the second tallest in Norfolk) The extra photo shows the tree dedicated to Cecil John Rhodes - a somewhat controversial character of late
