The Old Forge (Tuesday 5th October 2021)

Colours other than green have been draining from the Woodland Garden as autumn approaches but these pelargoniums in the porch make a welcome contradiction.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Joy Lovejoy - In Orbit (recorded September 1966, Chicago IL)
Originally released on the Chess label subsidiary Checker in 1967, this single was pretty much undiscovered until the early seventies when adopted by the Northern Soul clubs. A British re-issue appeared in 1972. Everybody involved in the writing, arranging, producing and performing of the song was from Chicago, but nobody knows who Joy Lovejoy is or was, beyond the fact that she was from a trio of backing singers and thought to have the potential to be a solo artist, but when the single didn't take off she went back to be doing whatever she was doing before. Extensive research by many record collectors failed to find any Joy Lovejoys in the Chicago area and nobody came forward to lay claim to the identity. The trio may have come in from elsewhere, possibly New York, or the name could have been a nom d'artiste invented for the single. She does not appear to have been related to any East Anglian antique dealers.
