Chopin concert

It was strange going out to our first concert this evening in eighteen months, a candlelight affair in the Holy Trinity church, Stirling, where we peered at strangers, acquaintances and friends unsure we recognized each other behind our masks.

The occasion was a virtuoso performance by Polish concert pianist Anna Debowska to celebrate the Jane Stirling Festival.

She restaged the performance Chopin gave in 1848 when he toured Scotland.
Jane Stirling, the daughter of Scottish aristocrats, was a devoted pupil of Chopin and she brought him to Scotland to perform in many of the grand houses though it is said that Chopin was not enamoured by the houses describing them as cold and draughty and all he could see from his bedroom window were trees.

The concert was a reminder of all we have missed during the pandemic.
