A Fairy Ring!

You have to use your imagination since I suspect the squirrels tried to fill in the sparse spots with leaves and obviously weren't completely successful. It does resemble a circle if your expectations aren't too rigid.  Bless their little squirrel hearts.  They took time out of their frantic day of searching for peanuts to say thanks, in their own special, squirrelish way.
