White-faced...

…………………………......……..Heron

The white-faced heron is New Zealand's most common heron. It was self introduced into NZ early in the 1940s.

Usually seen feeding around estuaries and waterways these birds, when roosting are tree dwellers.
This was taken as the sun was getting low in the sky so no doubt this bird was getting ready to settle for the night. Its partner flew in a short while later.

Thank you for your response to yesterday’s blip. The title is Golden Lily, c 1897 and designed by John Henry Dearle for Morris & Co. Obviously a familiar design as several of you recognised it as a William Morris edition.
