Sgwarnog: In the Field

Jubilee

I spent a full morning exploring the fells and caves above Settle. I was more or less following Walk #30 on Wainwright’s Walks in Limestone Country, via Attermire and Victoria Cave, but made a short scramble to bag a trig point at Warrendale Knots (extra). The presence of ravens added to the atmosphere   (extra) and there was plenty of interesting fungi (selection on Twitter) around too. It was a fairly modest walk up from the town it felt like proper hill country.  Today’s photo is from the interior of Jubilee Cave.

On returning to town I pottered  about before heading down to Settle United FC’s Bridge End ground on the banks of the Ribble. The visitors were Langho 72 in an East Lancs League fixture. It finished with a comprehensive 8-1 victory for Settle. It is a very tidy ground, popular with groundhoppers and the club is clearly ambitious to start climbing the football pyramid.
