Cement a nineteenth century invention

In 1824 Joseph Aspidin invented Portland Cement which is still used today (not the exact mixture as, if you ask any builder it will have "gone off"!)

It is understood that the set mortar created from Portland Cement looked very similar to Portland Stone and this is why it is thus named.

This is a shot of the front of a large local hotel which is being dolled up, repointed (with cement) and  converted into luxurious flats and apartments. The occupants will have amazing sea views and high heating bills!

This entry is part of Laurie54's very interesting Mono Monday Challenge Month featuring the inventions over the centuries.

Thank you Laurie for hosting for us again.
