inventions of the 19th century:

1885 German inventors Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach produced the first motorcycle with a diesel based engine, they managed to fit a 264cc engine to a wooden bicycle. It was known as a "Daimler Reitwagen"(riding wagon and is today regarded as the first motorcycle.
in 1894 "Hildebrand & Wolfmuller" was the first mass produced motorcycle, even though they only made several hundred. An American inventor E. J. Pennington was able to produce a motorcycle that reached the speed of 58mph.

from 1901-1903 the big names started to manufacture their versions:
English Royal Enfield, Triumph, American Harley- Davidson and Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company.
