Multicultural Manchester

I often take a short cut through the grave yard of this Victorian church in Longsight. Today was a very cold day, and in fact you can see the snow flakes if you look carefully. I thought the juxtaposition of the Islamic text and the deconsecrated Christian church was a good metaphor for Longsight, an area of southern Manchester in which, according to the 2011 UK census, 72.9% of the population is from non-white ethnic groups. That for me makes it a vibrant place to live. For the record, St John's Church, Longsight, was founded in 1846 and closed in 1993 to become a mosque and Islamic centre.

Also for the record, I applied a 'film grain' filter in Photoshop - just seemed the right thing to do.
