Tomb of Sir Roger North

Our walk today, in quite sunny weather was centred on the village of Kirtling, just inside Cambridgeshire Its claim to fame is that it is the home of the North family: Sir Edward North served as Chancellor of the Court of Augmentations under Henry VIII He made his money handling the dispersal of the former monastic property seized by the crown in the Dissolution of the Monasteries This, however, is his son Sir Roger, who was a Privy Councillor to Elizabeth 1 The church also has 8 hatchments - mourning boards carried in a funeral procession - see some of them in the extra photo
