LD 20

This is another sight the world leaders won't see when they come here for Cop26.   An old telephone kiosk which has been used for a drinking session as can be seen by the 6 empty bottles of LD 20!

LD 20 is an updated version of Eldorado Tonic Wine.  It was popular around here until Buckfast Tonic Wine gradually took over in a big way.  In fact before Buckfast the market was basically shared by Eldorado and Lanliq (Lanny).

I've never tasted it (honest) but I remember years ago going into a pub in Glasgow's east end after a meeting and every single local who came in ordered "a pint of heavy and a glass of El D".

These wines were particularly popular within the Shipbuilding and Steel industries where it was thought it enhanced their strength and performance, but the side efffects of drinking excess often resulted in a visit to the local police stations.   With all this 'tonic' wine no wonder they felt they didn't need any vitamins from fruit and vegetables!

While on the subject of Eldorado, I'm sure most blippers are far too young to remember there was a TV Soap by that name which followed the lives of ex pats in Spain.   It only lasted a year or so before if was taken off air.
