Super stacks

Another lovely day of sunshine. We went to explore some of the Isle of Thanet, which is not an island, but was once. We arrived at Broadstairs and I instantly loved the Promenade which overlooks the golden sands of Viking Bay. Charles Dickens spent quite a lot of time in Broadstairs and the town makes the most of this connection. The house which is now a museum (closed) Dickens House is a lovely old house (see extra) which was once the home of Miss Mary Pearson Strong on whom Dickens based much of the character of Miss Betsy Trotwood in 'David Copperfield' - she of chasing donkeys fame. 

After some excellent pasta at an Italian restaurant overlooking the sea and another wander along the prom, we headed a little further north and arrived at Botany Bay, so named because smugglers were caught here and sent to Botany Bay in Australia . . . apparently. Botany Bay is an idyllic Thanet beach with towering chalk stacks sheared off from the cliffs. A beautiful place.
