And Now for Something Completely Different!

It was a stunning fall day and I went for a very long walk with my dear friend...and then we treated ourselves to lunch...outside, very outside. In fact we had to ask the waitress to turn on the heater - it was a bit nippy under the tent in the shade. This is McMenamin's Rock Creek Tavern. The McMenamin brother's have had a long history of turning various interesting sorts of buildings in the Pacific NW into all sorts of lodging and eating establishments. This particular restaurant is fairly close by to where I live (in Rock Creek, west of the City of Portland, OR) and it's quintessentially Pacific NW. Right down to the mossy roof. There's a giant wooden mushroom indoors...truly you feel as though you've found a troll's house in the deep, mossy woods.

If you're interested in seeing the inside and more photos, you can check out their FaceBook page here. And to see more about this place as well as their other establishments, check out their the McMenamin's website here.

The food is all sort of the same pub-like food, the service is usually slow, although friendly. The beer and hard cider are good, the wine not so much. And they do have a distillery! Anyway, we had great fun eating our burgers while admiring the mossy roof and wondering when it will all fall into decay ;-)
