THE MAIDEN'S HEAD

Although it's not immediately obvious, buildings along both Church Street and the top end of the High Street still contain large elements of the medieval community  – albeit hidden by later modernisations.
All the properties on the left are medieval with Georgian or later façades to make them look ‘modern’.
The original medieval building apparently still stands out the back and is used for storage, but unfortunately – due to builders' shuttering – it's no longer visible from anywhere.
The Maiden's Head – the boarded-up building and the one next door further up the hill – used to be called the Smokehouse restaurant, then it became a big nightclub called The Maidenhead.
It's boarded up now and I don't know what's going to happen to it – there might be solicitors' offices at street level, and apartments in the roof.
I wish I'd realised sooner that it was available, as it would make really good premises for my proposed Pastafarian Church – although probably quite expensive to convert…
