Juiced

Early afternoon, Ailsa arrives and we brunch on sausages, tomatoes, and eggs, we begin the labour of the day.

Apples are picked, sliced, and pitched into Ivan’s pulper. The pump is scooped from trig to pillow case, and thence into the juice press.

We fill two 5 gallon fermentation buckets, and begin a second pressing. Another two gallons is forthcoming. Oxidised and dark, a mix of half a dozen varieties at least, the juice looks unappetising, but tastes amazing.

Tomorrow I will begin preparation for fermentation, but tonight Dan prepares risotto with Ceps freshly picked by Nick. And then we watch Blinded By The Light, a strange music video of a movie featuring Luton, the National Front, and a soundtrack of Springsteen songs.
