On the road to Thamel

The area around the Chörten is usually clean, quiet and calm.  As soon as you step outside Bodha Gate it's a different scene - it's dirty, noisy and frantic.

We made a trip by Taxi to Thamel as it had more shops than Bodha.  It also had a cashpoint, which Bodha didn't have at the time.

Driving appears chaotic with cars and motorbikes passing either side at any time.  Priority at junctions is negotiated with liberal use of the horn.  People walk across the road unexpectedly.  Despite all this we saw no accidents.

It was fascinating to have an experience of the 'real' Kathmandu, but we were happy to return to the calm of Bodha.
