Surgeons at work -Lifeline Express hospital train

IMPACT India's Lifeline Express is currently stationed in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, where it will remain until 6th April.

Patrick Neale (a visitor) is currently on board the train observing the surgical team as they repair cleft lips.

'A man dressed in surgical attire, closely matching mine, signaled me to follow him and he led me with my video camera through the guarded doors and into the Operation Theatre, where the cleft lip patients, now under the influence of anaesthetics, occupied three operating tables simultaneously.

Only the section of their mouth region was visible as the rest of their torso was covered with linen fabric. I stealthily manoevered in an inconspicuous manner lifting the video camera over the surgeons' heads peering into my camera viewfinder and recording all actions, including the dexterous surgery of cleft lips.

Within a few weeks, the scar will eventually vanish and the scar on the lips will be barely discernible. Another life transformed!'

Over the coming days operations to restore sight, hearing and mobility will also take place.
