Milano Centrale

Milan railway station, side atrium. A lot of hustle and bustle and a fair few hustlers, and massive advertising hoardings all over the place, obscuring the stonework.

First time I was here, 15 years ago, I was awestruck. A few years later I worked with a guy from Milan and when I told him how much I loved the rail station, his face darkened, he looked away, and said sotto voce "Fascist Architecture". There was a pause, and the conversation rapidly moved on to other topics.

This is the first time I've been back here since then. And now I can totally see what he means. Funny thing, context.
