Hopfengarten im Winter

One of our hop yards in winter. I know, technically it's not winter any more, but it still pretty much looks like it.

So I'm back at the farm for some more work the Easter holidays. This weekend was meant to be all about work in our hop yards. However, it's still very cold and snowy outside and the hop plants aren't nearly as far as they should be around this time of the year.

Pictured is a slightly snow-covered hop yard just behind our farm house. Hop yards are very characteristic for the Hallertau area, where I grew up. Those 7 meters high gardens are a pretty sight, when the hop plants are in full bloom and cover the whole thing with a thick green layer. But I'm not going to lie, in winter and spring the whole area looks rather barren.
