Sunday Mass in the Bush

The pic shows part of the congregation at Sunday Mass in Baula.
We left Mzuzu at 8.30 am with our good friend Fr John Ryan, who doubles as professor of Mathematics in Mzuzu University, on a 2 hour drive to this remote outstation. After driving through on treacherous roads through amazing landscape and picking up a guide on the way, our last turn was indicated by the shouts of a small boy who had waited patiently with friends and drums to bring us the last mile.
The cermony was joyous and meaningful even in Tumbuka and the welcome was humbling. Mary spoke of our mission in Malawi to a very responsive congregation, using all the local words as she knows.
Liam, our DIT student who is on 6 month placement here was introduced and cheered.
We were invited to eat the specially prepared meal and finally arrived home at 3.30 pm.
What a day and what an experience of the real Malawi, the real heart of Africa
