Sleeping seal

This young seal was a rescue from South Wales when it was 3 or 4 weeks old and it was rehabilitated and released into the ocean! It found its way to salcombe where fishermen fed it and then gave fish to the public to feed it so it sadly got used to humans and they used to feed it things like ice cream too! Anyway the animal rescue people took it right out to sea but it gravitated back to salcombe and it was in danger due to boat traffic.

It was taken again and released near Cawsand and has subsequently made its way to the Stonehouse peninsula and hauls up on the beach to sleep during the day! Sadly it is half term so there may be a conflict of interest! The animal rescue service is keeping an eye on it and are protecting it from people and dogs.

It looks like a piglet from some angles but it has a happy smile. It is about 20lbs in weight and needs to grow to at least 50lbs.

The only other seal in the area is a bull and a different variety so hopefully it will not be a danger to the seal pup, a little lady. Lots of people are coming to see it who have never seen a seal before!
