Living my dream

Kakabeak

The kakabeak is so called because the flowers resemble the beak of the kaka bird…a native parrot.

It is unusual for a kakabeak tree to grow well this far south. This one is planted next to the 25,000 litre water tank and is therefore protected from the worst frosts, and is thriving. It seems to have flowers blooming all year round.

The extra is the yellow kowhai with the red kakabeak beyond. I love the combination.
