Pill harbour

In the 19th Century Pill pilots made their living navigating the river Avon bringing in ships  from the channel. The ships parked whilst the Pill hobblers and rowboat men moved craft and cargoes up and down the river.  Sails were made in the village and sailors waiting for their ships could spend their money in one of the many pubs in the village.  There were four in the Pump Square and fourteen in other parts of the village!
Obviously, this picture was taken today.
