The Nunnery, Alderney

This shows what is now known as The Nunnery Heritage site. It was a small Roman fort and has been altered over the years with Napoleonic, Victorian and WW2 additions. It is fascinating to see from the recent archeological dig the width of the Roman Wall (approx 3 metres). Fancy being able to stand on the fort wall built by the Romans, enter a 1790 gunpowder magazine and enter into a WW2 German personnel bunker with an escape hatch. So much on a small site.
