True colours

I'm not really a big fan of autumn. Having lived so long in Orkney, the glorious turning colours of trees, kicking through piles of leaves, collecting crab apples and the excitement of finding conkers are distant memories! So often the leaves are blown off the bushes and trees before they get a chance to properly change colour and there is a lot of soggy, damp foliage about the place!

This year it has been much brighter and, until the last week or so, drier than usual. Lots of plants in the garden are still flowering, and it's amazing what is still looking good, despite the occasional gale! Some super days for bracing walks and lovely sunshine, bringing out the best of Orkney's true colours.

I'll start thinking more positively about it!
