a lifetime burning

Teach a man to fish...

... and you'll not see him for hours on end.

But of course, the same could be said of many other activities.  I've never really "got" fishing, but I know that lots of people do.

The rain was torrential here last night and this morning, but it eventually eased up this afternoon and we've had some sunlight on occasions.  I think we are due for another soaking tonight and tomorrow.  There's no room left in the pond, which as at the overflowing stage.  Still, as its the end of British Summer Time tonight, and the clocks go back an hour, we get an extra hour in bed tomorrow, to listen to the rain tapping on the roof and walls as Paul Simon would put it.

As you can see from this shot of Chew Lake, we are gradually getting some more colour in the leaves, hopefully we will get a bit more yet this Autumn.

In other news Hyperion was nearly correct with his identification of yesterday's bird - it was not an Osprey but a male Marsh Harrier.  The nice man at Bristol Ornithological Club tells me that they think there might also be 2 females in the area, which are similar but have golden heads.
