Come Sail Away

"I'm Sailing away,
Set an open course for the virgin seas,
'cos I've got to be free,
Free to face the life that's ahead of me

On board I'm the captain so Climb aboard
We'll search for tomorrow on every shore
And I'll try, Oh Lord I'll try to carry on.."

The opening refrain from "Come Sail Away" by Styx, a rock band very much under rated in the UK but bolstered in recent years from the vocal talents of Lawrence Gowan, a Canadian by nationality but one, born like so many, in Glasgow. Enough of my musical meanderings...

The East End Endeavor was making way in a stiff breeze down the Clyde this afternoon, there was a fleck of snow in the air. The snow on the hills behind and the dark shadows on the lower slopes testament to the winter chill.

She looked serene and she gently cut through the rippling water. Like a lot of the shots I take I wondered here about the crew, where were they going, where had they been thinking of how beautiful it is to be on the water. Only the skipper was in sight so maybe he was out alone and what a glorious sense of solitude that would provide. I sailed Lasers and Wayfarers when I was at school but never got the opportunity to crew on anything bigger... maybe someday!
