Project 365 day 302: Puffball!

Shortly after P returned from his daily early morning six mile walk on the downs and around the lanes, he mysteriously(and unusually) disappeared by car. He returned with a bag of shopping from the Co-op and a tatty cardboard box containing an enormous puffball. He picked it in the same place as a similar but slightly smaller one last year, and it is in perfect condition. It's about the same size as our second largest giant pumpkin. This evening we have eaten some of it, fried in large, fleshy slices with seasonings and served with a pasta pesto dish. Puffballs are not among the tastiest wild mushrooms, but they taste pleasantly mushroomy. P will decide how to use it, but I will be looking forward to rissotto and soup as well as more chunky puffball slices.

Thank you for all the kind comments on my 300th Blip on Wednesday, and the hearts and stars. They are appreciated, and I'm sorry I've not yet found time to respond. I'm back-blipping Friday's photo late on Saturday, and am behind schedule with everything else too, but look forward to catching up with comments and journals before too long.
